5th Week of Roller Derby Boot Camp
I realize I missed a week, but I’ll fill you in, no worries.
My ass is healing nicely, considering. I walk even funnier than before, and I almost cry when I sit down or try to stand up. Acupuncture has helped immensely! Without it, I doubt I’d continue to go to practice. Icing it for 4 days straight helped and the pharmacist told me I can take up to 2400mg a day of Advil (800mg 3x a day with food) and not overdose or cause a lot of damage.
Practice is going great otherwise. An old friend from high school heard what I have been doing, so she started coming to practices too. She skated a lot as a kiddo and is doing great! She is helping me get my skates figured out. Between the wheels, and the struts… my skates were a mess. They are better now, and I’m actually noticing improvement in my stride and my speed. I’m also showing improvement in stops and falls, although I can’t pop up from the one knee falls just yet. Sprints are awesome and sucky at the same time. I feel like I’m going die, or my legs are going to give out… then I imagine my daughter on the sideline screaming GO MOMMY! GO MOMMY! and I make it through. I might not be fast enough yet, but I’m pretty proud of myself for not giving up.
We have our skills tests coming up… time to get even more serious. I’ve started taking my daughter to skate lessons, so we can skate together. We can have time together, and I can get some more practice in. WIN! WIN! I’ve also been trying to go to adult skate when I can. I had no idea how many adults still skate… and they are GOOD.
It’s funny I get mixed reactions when I mention Roller Derby. Anything from, “That is so cool”, to “You must be one bad as bitch” to, “You must be one crazy bitch”. Whatever, I love it.
